General FAQS

DKL faculty members come from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, united by their passion for academic excellence. Every qualified DKL teacher must have completed over 3,000 teaching hours with students aged 6 to 15. Additionally, they must demonstrate more than 1,000 hours of teaching experience before being eligible for an interview at DKL Studio. All DKL teachers undergo rigorous training to master the studio’s teaching methods and standards. A majority of them hold a Master’s degree, and some have earned a Ph.D. degree. All DKL teachers have many years of experience in fields such as language studies or cross-cultural education. Beyond their academic credentials, DKL teachers are avid readers, accomplished writers, and passionate literature critics. Most teachers are fluent in 2–3 foreign languages, enabling them to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps effectively. They are continually trained and evaluated, ensuring they stay at the forefront of innovative teaching practices. The cutting-edge teaching content and methods empower teachers to optimize the learning outcomes of every DKL student.

Many Asian families place a strong emphasis on academic excellence for their children, driven by a desire to succeed. This motivation often leads students to focus on traditional Asian educational approaches, which may prioritize mechanical memorization, repetition, and a rigid practice on English reading and writing. However, these methods can sometimes limit a student’s intellectual growth.

At DKL Studio, teachers understand the unique cultural and linguistic challenges that Asian families face when adjusting to the North American education system. DKL teachers are trained to support Asian students in overcoming these obstacles and achieving high academic success. Our approach focuses on holistic development, encouraging intellectual freedom while ensuring students maintain a strong connection to their Asian heritage. By offering a balanced and inclusive teaching style, DKL teachers inspire students to succeed in both English-speaking environments and their cultural identities.

Most DKL students score above the 70th percentile in standardized tests such as SSAT, ISEE, SCAT, and MAP, among North American samples (including the U.S. and Canada). Some students consistently rank above the 90th percentile in these assessments.

At DKL Studio, reading comprehension, writing, and test preparation are primarily designed as long-term programs, typically lasting over 50 hours. This structure allows DKL families to gain a clear insight into their child’s academic progress.

Parents can track their child’s development through school teacher feedback, report cards, regular homework performance, reading and writing projects, and standardized test results.

Cancellation & Refund FAQs

Tuition is 100% refundable before the first scheduled session begins.
If a parent submits a written cancellation request before the second scheduled session (including any time after the first session but before the second), the tuition for the remaining portion of the program is 80% refundable.

Once the second scheduled session has begun, tuition is non-refundable.
Tuition is not transferable between students, but it can be transferred between siblings within the same family.

In each 12-week term, a student may request a maximum of three weeks of cancellations. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing and confirmed by DKL administrative personnel. A minimum of four hours ’notice before the scheduled start time is required. If a family requests more than three weeks of cancellations within a 12-week term or fails to provide written notice, the tuition for the missed sessions will not be refunded and will be considered as if the session took place as scheduled.
